Οι Dark Sky στο Museum Of Past Affections : Interview In English

1)  Tell us your story!

We started our musical journey as students and classmates. We wanted to become stars like our idols from AC/DC, Scorpions or Judas Priest. At some point, after a few line-up changes, we signed the first record deal, recorded an album and... the record company went bankrupt. At the second attempt with a different label, the singer at the time dropped out along with the lead guitarist because they both got cold feet. It wasn't until the third attempt with Frank as singer that the first CD release worked. Since then, DARK SKY has been regularly on tour and in the studio for new releases. With the current album "Signs Of The Time" and the collaboration with the Angels PR agency, we have now taken another step into the international music business.

2)  How did you come up with this name? Is there any interesting story behind this choice?

The band name came from our Australian lead guitarist. He probably had a nightmare about a darkening sky. Ha, ha, ha, no, seriously, as far as I know there is no real story about the band's name. Since there wasn't a real black metal scene back in the 80s, the name just sounded cool and we wanted to keep the name later. Of course, there have been misunderstandings about the name over the last 20 years, but there has never been a problem.

3)  Is your music as dark as your name? How would you describe your music genre?

Ha, ha, ha, as I said, the name doesn't stand for dark metal. We started with the hard rock of the 80s and now the sound has developed more towards melodic metal, with elements of power metal and symphonic metal.

4) You have a lot of experience and that is something that anyone can enjoy listening to your music! Do you think that there is an evolution through the years?

Thank you! Yes, in fact I think there is an evolution in composing and arranging songs over the years. You also always learn something new by working with producers and other composers.

5)  New album, new music! Signs Of The Time is out! Congratulations about this new release! Tell us a few things about this new album!

The new album is like a new beginning for DARK SKY, because since the last release the line up has changed in every position except for the vocals. This also makes the album something very special, because the sound and style have changed somewhat due to the new impulses and influences of the musicians, and a slightly different approach to production. For the first time in the band's history, "Signs Of The Time" also released four singles, each with a music video. That was a lot of fun and of course attracted some attention.

6)  Interesting name, interesting cover! What is the concept of the album?

The government requirements due to the pandemic not only had catastrophic consequences for us musicians. This time was very depressing for us, and in retrospect many things were a bit frightening for us in Germany. Songs like the title track “Signs Of The Time” or “We’re Falling” emerged from this feeling. But we also covered other topics on the album. Of course, "Heroes On Ice" was a title with a video that was particularly emotional because it reflects our connection to ice hockey and the gladiators on the ice. But the song “Forgiveness”, which is about child abuse, is thematically depressing. This text really brought tears to my eyes. All in all, it was about conveying as much emotion as possible with each song.

7)  Suggest us 3 songs that we should listen from the new album Signs Of The Time!

In any case, of course, the title track “Signs Of The Time”, then the song with my favorite video “Heroes On Ice” and the song with the very impressive video “Forgiveness” should not be missed. But I can also recommend all the other songs ;-)

8)  Do you have plans for a video clip in the near future?

Yes, we are actually planning to release another song with a music video for the upcoming festivals in summer 2024, even if the next album won't be ready until 2025 at the earliest. We already have a few exciting ideas for the video, hopefully we can implement them!

9) Do you have plans for some concerts for 2024?

Oh yes, we have a lot to do. There are concerts coming up from May 2024 where we can present our current album to a larger audience. The performances are mostly abroad and we get the chance to perform on some really big festival stages in Europe. If it works out, we'll also try to do a small tour at the end of 2024 as support for a larger band.

10)  Thank you Dark Sky! What is your message to our readers?

Thanks for the interview questions. Guys, if you really like melodic metal, watch our music videos and listen to our latest album. It would be great if we could see each other live at some point when we can perform somewhere in your country. Until then, stay healthy and keep your faith!
